The End of Universe of Mystery

After a great deal of serious thought and consideration, I have decided to end the podcast know as Universe of Mystery.

It has been a great experience and I really value all of you who have written and/or called in to express your appreciation for the show.  As many of you already know, UOM (Universe of Mystery) was initially meant to be nothing more than my audition to be the next host of MU (Mysterious Universe, a fantastic show and the very first podcast I ever listened to) after its podfade early last year.  I was very happy to see MU return as I am a genuine fan of Ben Grundy’s work, however I knew that this meant that UOM’s days would soon be numbered.

Since the start of the show in 2008, I believe UOM has taken on a life of it’s own and carved out it’s own niche.  However, the title of the show alomg with a few other elements of the format continue to be very similar to MU’s pre-podfade show, along with the fact that occasionally the same background music is selected innadvertently either by Mr. Grundy or myself simply due to a similar appreciation for the downtempo genre, and the fact that sometimes we’re both searching for “spooky sounding” misic from the same and only source for podfree music, the ioda promonet.  Although imitation can be the highest form of flattery, occasionally it can also be seen as plagerism and be met with a vitriolic and justified response.  It isn’t about any one individual, many of you, even fans of the show have mentioned my show’s similarity to MU which I continue to take as a compliment.

But I’m afraid the time has come.  I have decided to do a final “Marathon” episode and end the show for good.  The next show will be the last UOM, but it won’t be my last podcast.  In fact, I have some exciting plans in the works for a new show.  I don’t have all the details worked out yet but I know that it will be completely different than anything that is currently out there, and if there happen to be any similarities to anything ever broadcasted they should be taken as accidental, unintentional and either an example of my innexperience as a radio brodcaster or an example of the way one artist is innadvertently influenced by another, much in the way Crowded House was influenced by The Beatles.

The new show will still have a slant towards the strange and paranormal, but I think I want to focus more on the stories.  The stories are what makes these topics really interesting after all, not the opinions of the host.

So thank you all.  It has been an incredible adventure, an adventure that is not over by any means, but will change and evolve over time, as it should.
